Too many social media accounts?
So little time to spread your joy?
Blisters can form on fingers that re-type words (or copying and pasting) from a single WP post to social media. There are ways to circumvent some of the process work. WordPress Publicize is there for just that!
Publicize enables handshakes to take place between itself and applications like Tumblr, Twitter, Facebook (and many more) so you can simultaneously deliver your content to all of them. When a post is made and then posted using WordPress Publicize, you can have the same post re-broadcasted to all the rest of you nominated social accounts. Lifting a finger will be a thing of the past.
The best thing is that it also sorts out all the hashtagging for you. (For instance, a tag in WP becomes a hashtag in Tumblr!)
WordPress Publicize has a Flipside
There are some pitfalls of using WordPress Publicize, well, not Publicize itself, but with the connections it makes with social media. As many social media sites now offer re-broadcasting services of their own, loops can occur in the social-mediasphere. It’s when one post keeps posting itself over and over again the trouble can happen. As a blogger, you don’t want to piss your followers off by clogging up their feeds with a mistake like this.
The trick is to lay down a plan and then take a look at what social media you’re hoping to send your blog-posts to. It then time to sign-up to those you haven’t already signed up to. Zero all their accounts by unchecking all their repost options. When you’ve done that, go back to WordPress Publicize and fill-in each account’s section accordingly. When that’s one, do a test post to check and see that the post you’ve written has made it out to all the sites nominated. Give it a few minutes. It can take a while.
Now I don’t profess to know all the ins and outs of all social media and the looping that can occur. I’m a mere author of novels. All I’m saying is that it’s better to be aware of them existing when venturing into this exciting world of automated re-broadcasting.
WordPress publicize doesn’t give a blogger access to EVERY social site there is out there. New forms of social media are popping up all the time. Some stay, others fall away, while some won’t get connected to WP at all. WP programmers don’t include everyone. Needless to say, the ones that really count are there. All you need to do is activate the service and save blistering your fingers from copying and pasting!
